On one of my most recent trips, I made a rookie Disney mistake.
Actually I made 2 rookie mistakes rolled into one giant mistake.
I only packed one pair of shoes and they were brand new.
I figured it would be a short trip so one pair of my favorite flip flops would be good! But the problem was, my dog had an accident and I had to buy a brand new pair right before I left. I didn’t have time to break them in.
I told you. Rookie mistake.
I tell my clients to bring at least two pairs of shoes for a trip and never, ever, ever should they be brand new.
Why two pairs? First, it rains a lot in Florida. You don’t want to have to walk around with soggy feet. Second, sometimes your feet need a break from the other pair. I actually like to bring three pairs for a longer trip.
So what shoes are best? Well that is going to depend on you! But here are some of my go-to’s.
Toms
I may be weird with these, but I love wearing Toms in a theme park. I don’t like heavy sneakers so I love that they are nice and light. I also think they are super cute and live in them.
These random Amazon sneakers
I stumbled upon these randomly one day and something prompted me to try them. I actually don’t really wear sneakers but I love that these are super light and comfortable and come in cute colors. I own several pairs.
I want to emphasize that you can’t wear any flip flops to Disney. You need something that has support and cushioning. That being said, I actually love wearing these to Disney World during the rainy season. Maybe this is weird, but my feet dry faster than sneakers so I would rather have wet feet for a little bit than walk around in soaky sneakers.
You can also throw these in your backpack in case your sneakers do get wet.
However these were the shoes that I caused my massive blister, so make sure to break them in!
Crocs
Never in a million years would I have recommended Crocs, until I made my Rookie mistakes and had to buy a pair in the Magic Kingdom thanks to the biggest blisters of my life. Those were $75 Crocs, so if you think you want to go that way, I would buy a pair here.
And if you are judging me, don’t knock ‘em until you try them. I swore I would never wear crocs and now I am hooked.
Those are my go to’s but some other solid choices are:
HOKA Ones- I have to admit I haven’t worn them myself but I know others have and love them. You will see a lot of these around the parks too.
On Cloud– This is another sneaker I never wore and isn’t really my style but I still sort of want a pair. Maybe it’s the name but they seem so fluffy!
Brooks Glycerin– I have worn these to the parks and they are super comfortable and supportive. These are my go to running sneakers and I can walk in them all day. For me they get kind of heavy by the end of day but if you are looking for a good sneaker with a lot of support these are an excellent choice.
More than just sneakers, I would also recommend wearing comfortable socks. If I wear sneakers, I always wear running socks because they are more cushioning.
But my favorite, especially if you have any issues with your feet like plantar fasciitis, I recommend these compression socks. I have orthostatic hypotension and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and these help with the circulation in my feet instantly, even if they aren’t the cutest.
Also, don’t forget to pack Disney bandaids and moleskin. And also a bonus tip- foot body glide. before the friction can start.
And most importantly, nothing new! Even if they are your tried and true shoes, test them out and wear them a few times. Go for a few walks in them.
Good luck finding the perfect shoes! Comment below and let me know your park faves!
My husband and I love Allbirds for the parks! They’re super light but have great support. 22 miles a day and we didn’t have sore feet!
